Game Reviews (Post 5)

Want to know what games to play? Check out our list of the top 3 shooter games !

3 - Combat Arms

With over 1 million players registered, Combat Arms has proved to be one of the most popular games of the year.

In Combat Arms there is no storyline, instead the only goal in the game is to eliminate the enemy. Although there is no real objective to this game, its maps allows for different tatics to be employed, with multiple routes to travel by or hiding spots for your teammates to ambush the enemy.

While the graphics and the sound effects are impressive, the only downside to Combat Arms is its persistent economy. Scoring kills and winning rounds earns you money which you can use to aquire better weapons and equipment for future rounds. However, be careful on what you buy , two weapons of the same price may differ in accuracy and damage.

Overall, Combat Arms is a great game that you'll find yourself strangely addicted to if you like fast paced shooter games.

2 - Call of Duty 4 -Modern Warfare

Infinity Ward's Call of Duty 4:Modern Warfare takes you to a whole new world of chaos. This new version of a more gripping and intense shooter game brings you right into the heart of the action. With new enemies, deadlier weapons and amazing battle locations, Call of Duty 4:Modern Warfare will show you that war IS hell.

Many of the amazing tools of war are used in Call of Duty 4. You will man the weapons of the AC-130 Gunship which flies above battlefields, firing 105mm rounds right into the heart of your enemies on the grounds. You can also use a weapon from the wide variety in your arsenal, both light and heavy weaponry, along with a great range of scopes and augmentation to increase your accuracy. My personal favourite is the M4 Carbine with laser sights for added accuracy.

Unlike the previous versions of Call of Duty, Call of Duty 4 tells a continuous story from the perspective of the British S.A.S and also the US Marines, hopping from one point to another. The story itself revolves around stolen Russian nukes and Middle-Eastern terrorists bent on destroying you. There aren't much 'twists' in the storyline but quite a number of shocking moments in the story. You may find yourself in disbelief not only at some of the events that take place, but in the direct manner in which the most startling moments are often told.

The real difference with this game and its predecessors is in its combat. The intensity of this shooter game had me on the edge of my seat, mainly because there are a lot of enemies, with half of them carrying rocket launchers, and they were also able to adapt to their environment quickly, due to more refined Artificial Intelligence. Granted, there are some enemies just standing in the open waiting to be gunned down, but most of them know how to stay covered when in a heated battle and also know that YOU, a well-trained soldier, won't fight in the open. This is the precise reason why most of them have rocket launchers, and toss so many of those grenades to try and flush you out. Lucky for you, you can throw live grenades back at your enemies and let them have a taste of their own medicine.

All in all, Call of Duty 4 is a really awesome game which you should get, to experience the warfare, missions and weaponry.

1. Metal Gear Solid 4 : Guns Of The Patriots

It was twenty-one years ago when the gaming world was first introduced to the legendary soldier of fortune , Solid Snake. While this game marks the end of the Metal Gear Solid series , it still boasts new and improved gameplay features, ensuring that the gamer is immersed in the game until the very last level . Indeed, Metal Gear Solid 4 : Guns Of The Patriots is a classic in the making , setting the standards that all stealth games should be judged by in the future.

Set six years in the future from the previous game, war and conflict are no longer around hot spots around the world. Instead, the entire planet has been morphed into a giant battlefield.
War has become its own industry, replacing the global economy with the contracts of private military companies , who offer their services to the highest bidder. In order to gain more contracts, these mercenaries constantly try to prove their effectiveness on the battlefield, causing more destruction into the already chaotic world. This is what Snake has been called out for, one final mission to eliminate one last threat.

Of course, in order to survive in the heat of battles , Snake has been given new equipment such as the Octocamo, a special body suit which is not only able to blend into the environment but is also capable of replicating extremely complex objects, such as a muscle mannequin. Snake has also been given the Metal Gear MkII , a miniature robot which aids Snake in stealth operations.

Not only does the game have new equipment, new or improved gameplay features have been added. For example, in previous Metal Gear Solid games, Snake would have to find his weapons scattered around “safe zones”. However in Metal Gear Solid 4, nanomachines restrict each soldier’s weapons to their ID code. As a result, Snake would need to rely on Drebin , a gun launderer who would remove these restrictions from the gun as well as supply Snake with weapons and ammunition. Not only can Snake instantly purchase new arms that can be instantly be used, he can also modify his weapons, adding everything from laser scopes to noise suppressors and grenade launchers.

Legends die hard. That’s why Metal Gear Solid 4 is such a ending for a legendary warrior like Snake. Not only does it sum up the entire Metal Gear Solid series, it’s depth and its complexity make it indeed one of the best games ever made.

We're counting on you..(Post 4)

Hey there everybody!

A historic moment in history has been historically made.

Barack Obama has finally been sworn in as the 44th President of the United States of America. An estimate of an overwhelming 1.8 million Americans headed to the National Mall in Washington D.C. to watch history in the making. As I watched the re-telecast of the inauguration of President Obama on CNN, I was amazed at the huge amount of supporters braving the cold to watch as their new leader brings them to a new era of peace and hope. Millions more around the world will be tuning in to the radio, television and the internet to listen, watch or read about the inauguration, respectively.

To many people all around the world, Barack Obama seems to be their new beacon of hope. They hope he would be able to solve our problems, our dilemmas and our crisis. Many from the younger generations are also looking up to him, hoping he have the solution to everything.

Well, if you have any doubts, its too late by now. Americans have voted him to be their new leader. They have also voted for him to be, most probably, the most powerful man in the world. Now that the campaign is over. The Oath of Office taken. The whole world will scrutinise Obama's every move to see if he can deliver a much better job of leading the nation.

No pressure..
"I stand here today as hopeful as ever that the United States of America will endure, that it will prevail, that the dream of our founders will live on in our time."
Barack Obama, At the Lincolm Memorial concert on National Mall.

Things I learnt from an old movie (Post 3)

Hello there again lovely humans and disgusting monsters of planet Earth! I blog in peace..Why the space theme and why the "disgusting monsters"? Read on..

"Do I have to resort to (catastrophic) violence? As I see it's the only thing you humans can understand..."
Klaatu, The Day The Earth Stood Still (1951).

I agree with the "guy". In the story, Klaatu is an alien from outer space who comes to Earth and "suggested" to us humans to change our violent ways or be obliterated from existence. The alien, masquerading as a human, had so much trouble to get the humans united so he could deliver the message. In the end when he finally got our attention, he said that (during that time, 1951) humans are starting to advance in technology, mainly in weaponry and bombs, and he does not care if we humans "play with our silly toys among ourselves". Klaatu was afraid we train our missiles at other planets and worlds.

As much as I hate to admit it, Klaatu's right. Some humans are horribly blinded by greed, avarice and power, they don't really care if they harm another fellow human physically or mentally. In fact, most of them are not even bothered if thousands of innocent people are killed to get what they want, which are mainly, money, land and power. PLUS! The worst part is, most of these people are world "leaders" who think they can do as they please. Spoilt and corrupted leaders who people look up to. I haven't really get to the sad part yet, most of these leaders are from developing countries who really need a helping hand.

These leaders (can't say who) are smart in their own sinister way. They find reasons to wage war on neighbouring countries and more reasons to embezzle money from their own country for themselves. They basically cause more chaos to this already chaotic world. It also seems like these people have no guilt in their heart. No love for fellow humans except themselves.

If there's a villain, there should be a hero to make things better, if not neutralise. There are many people who try to make this world a better place to live in. People who dislike their peace being interrupted.

All I think is that the best thing to do instead of a war is to negotiate. Anyone can work out a deal where everyone's happy, can't they?

Some Quotes by great men who tried to change the world for the better.
"War may sometime seem like a necessary evil. But no matter how necessary, it is always an evil, never a good. We will not learn how to live together by killing each other's children"
-Jimmy Carter, 39th President of the United States.

"One day President Roosevelt told me that he was asking publicly for suggestions about what the war should be called. I said at once 'The Unnecessary War'."
-Sir Winston Churchill

I love Sundays (Post 2)

Hello there again!

Its the 18th of January of the promising year of 2009. The best day of the week, which is Sunday! A Sunday is slightly different than a Saturday, besides having different names, because its the day before Mondays. A boring start of a week. Like the calm before the boring storm.

This morning, I ate some homemade burger for breakfast. After breakfast, I went down to the nearby store to buy "some" rice. My mum wanted to stock up on rice, since the price of rice is rising steadily. Who knows how high the price of rice could be in the future. I was at the rice section of the store and saw many different brands and types of rice. Thai rice, Jasmine rice, Basmati rice, fragrant rice and many more. I chose to buy the "Royal Umbrella Fragrant Rice" brand. There was also another brand of rice which was vacuum-packed. Curious as it looks, the salesman told me the vacuum-packed rice lasts much longer if you do no open up the packaging and let air in.

I didn't care. I ignored him and bought 20 kilograms of Royal Umbrella Fragrant Rice in handy 5 kilograms plastic packaging. Lucky for my a brought a little cart which I used to drag the heavy rice back home. On the way home, I stopped by a drink stall. I bought some lychee-flavoured, ice-blended bubble tea. A little known fact about bubble tea. Originating from Taiwan, bubble tea or "Boba" tea is a tea beverage containing the gelatinous tapioca pearls. The word "bubble" refers to "bubbling", the process by which certain types of bubble tea are made, and not the actual tapioca pearls.

Back at home I am enjoying the remaining few hours before Monday comes. Playing some games and watching some movies at home.

Here's a HILARIOUS video of Jeff Dunham, a ventriloquist with his characters, Peanut, a wacky weirdo and Jose Jalapeno on a Stick a mexican veggie.. Watch It!!

New Blog (Post 1)

Hello there everybody!

A couple of days ago, a certain English teacher of mine made me make this new blog for the sake of marks which I will need and this will be my first of 5 compulsory blog entries. I don't really have any idea what to write about, so maybe I'll start with this:

Today is a Saturday, and I have no idea what to write about. What do you people do on a Saturday? Me, I usually sleep in through half the day. Around 12 noon or later is usually when I emerge from my mini-hibernation. Most of the time I would feel a little disorientated and lost. Wondering where I was and what time it was. While waiting for recent memories to return to me, I drag my lead-laden feet to the bathroom and brush off my "tenants" resting on my teeth through the night. As I brush my teeth, I savoured the sweet and minty flavour of my "Sensodyne" toothpaste.

So little happens in my life that I have to dramatise every bit. As my hand shifted my toothbrush left and right, I read the ingredients of the toothpaste printed on the tube:"Potasium nitrate 5%, Sodium Fluoride 0.221%, Purified water, Sorbitol, Precipated Hydrate....zzzzzz" I just fell asleep on the sink, toothbrush in my mouth and toothpaste foam dripping off my mouth.

I woke up about a half hour later. The toothpaste foam in my mouth has hardened. I used my brush to chip them off my teeth. I rinsed my mouth and washed my face to freshen up. I headed to the kitchen to find anything I can fill my rumbling tummy with. I found some leftover pita bread and dipped in about a tablespoon of extra virgin olive oil. Don't be disgusted, olive oil is a form of monounsaturated fats. It contains fatty acids which is good for the brain. It also have a high content of antioxidative substances which can control the "bad" cholesterol which will prevent heart diseases.

I brought my little snack out into the living room and switched on the television. Nothing much is on. I watched the news, cartoons, documentaries and movies all in one go. It turns out to be very boring if you do that.

I sat on the couch, falling asleep a couple of times, until about 3 in the afternoon. I got up and took a shower, shocked by the sudden drop in body temperature as my skin came in contact with freezing cold water.

At about 4PM, I finished all my homework, at the same time thinking about my unproductive day. Packed my schoolbag. I ironed my school uniform and hanged it in my cupboard.

I finished my day with dinner made by my mum. Resting a little, reading some books and then head back to bed. My day may sound unexciting and what you read is what you get.

P.S. the above pictures are of me playing basketball with my old friends..
